“STAND BY ME”

THE SIGNUM SOUND EXPERIENCE
NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR LETIZIA RENZINI

This new venture will take the shape of a fascinating exploration into the world of sound, using musical and visual storytelling, moving between fiction and reality, based on this amazing young quartet’s experiences and everyday life.
Four young saxophonists with boundless energy and strong individual ideas about sound and music. Four exceptional artists full of imaginative strength. Four fellows and soulmates journeying through their young lives with a host of personal and musical stories to tell. But also: four instruments forming one ensemble, becoming one voice, one breath.
Our “Fab Four” are very far removed from today’s competitive and self-centred approach to music and art (such as TV talent shows and the meaningless world of empty self-exposure on social networks). Instead, they open up a universe of dialogue between the inner and outer world vision of us all. Our project will always be mindful of the psychological level of its audience, so that kids can experience a unique landscape and an infinite variety of sounds and images to help foster their own creative ideas; a world full of exciting sounds, people, new contexts and relationship possibilities which can help build their developing identities. They will be offered a fresh and stimulating approach to music; a free and intimate way of absorbing any kind of sound. Focusing on their perception of themselves as well as their surroundings will be a crucial point where kids will be free to explore different approaches to listening, and to share that listening experience with others.
Each of the SIGNUMs’ own childhood events in different regions of today’s complex world geography have generated in them a great sensitivity towards today’s kids and a strong desire to bring something of lasting value into their lives. The achievements of these young musicians represent not only a great expression of the art of music but also a concrete example of the power of collective determination in achieving life’s goals. In the same way, classical music repertoire, popular music, experimental and concrete sounds, film music, will together create a new combination of sounds and musical genres for kids’ ears, and an open view of their creative possibilities.

These four young artists have demonstrated admirably that with friends standing beside you all manner of things are possible! The voice of the sax, the blowing of the wind, of the breath: the primary sound and the first beat of our time will be our starting point for a soundwalk towards the sometimes difficult but potentially amazing pathways through life.

“FOUR SAXOPHONISTS WHO ROCK THE HOUSE “
“HAMBURG. ARE THEY A REINCARNATION OF THE BEATLES? FOUR MUSICIANS, FOUR YOUNG GUYS WITH A ‘NAUGHTY BOY’ IMAGE AND ALL THE SELF-CONFIDENCE OF THOSE FAMOUS FOUR ‘MOP TOPS’ , STEP OUT ON STAGE, BEGIN TO PLAY AND SET THE PLACE ALIGHT. THERE ARE YOUNG GIRLS IN THE AUDIENCE – A BIG SCREEN AS IF FOR A POP GROUP (…)
A MIX OF MASCULINITY AND SENSITIVITY CHARACTERIZES THE MUSIC OF THE FOUR. PLAYING MOSTLY WITHOUT SHEET MUSIC THEY ARE FREELY VISIBLE, STANDING IN A CURVED FORMATION. WHO IS LOOKING AT WHOM AND WHO STEPS FORWARD AS THE LEADING VOICE IS COMPLETELY INSTINCTIVE AND SPONTANEOUS, IN LINE WITH THE MUSICAL LOGIC. THEIR STUPENDOUS PERFECTION BECOMES ALMOST A GIVEN (….)“

ALEX KIRSCH – concept, co-creation, project coordinator

Working in the classical music scene since 2004, I made many precious experiences in the field of concert production and tour planning, dealing with high profile artists from all around Europe. For several years I have been traveling around the world as responsible orchestra & choirtourmanager, too.“WereIJamesBond,IwoulddefinitelywantAlexonmyside!”, thisis what a cellist once said in the middle of a most stressful tour. It is probably the mixture of Nordic organization and Mediterranean-Italian flexibility which makes part of the success. Since 2013/14 I work as an artist manager, too.
It is an enormous pleasure for me to bring into life this wonderful project, together with our very strong team! We have worked out a very round concept, crossing borders of music and art, and giving our young (but also adult) audience the possibility to experiment music and sound in very various ways and to stimulate their creativity. With this project we aim not only to open the kid’s ears, but to give them a valuable alternative to the main stream and empty
social media world! At the end, the soul of our project is made of 4 fantastic musicians, who are not only exceptional artists but also 4 great guys/friends/older brothers, who are approaching life with enormous talent, professionalism, honesty, and with four big hearts.
